Description
Buchu (Agathosma betulina) is an evergreen shrub from the citrus family that grows wild in the fynbos vegetation of South Africa. The herb is closely related to plants such as rooibos and honeybush, which grow in the same unique ecosystem.
The small, shiny leaves of buchu are known for their intense, fresh scent — a lively blend of mint, rosemary and blackcurrant. In South Africa, buchu has been prized for centuries as a fragrant herb in teas and infusions, and it is still harvested in the mountainous regions of the Western Cape.
In the teapot, buchu provides a bright, herbal aroma with a hint of citrus and mint. It is delicious on its own or combined with rooibos, lemongrass or peppermint, bringing a touch of South African character to any blend.
