Description
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is an elegant umbelliferous herb that has been prized since ancient times for its fragrant seeds. Originally native to the Mediterranean region, fennel grew along Roman roads and was spread throughout Europe by monastic orders.
The flavour of fennel seed is sweet, spicy and slightly aniseed-like, with a refreshing, rounded note that comes into its own in both herbal infusions and dishes.
Fennel pairs well with mint, chamomile or caraway and forms a natural bridge between spicy and sweet.
