Description
Lapacho, also known as Taheebo or Pau d'Arco, is prepared from the inner bark of the Lapacho tree (Handroanthus impetiginosus), a native tree species from South America that grows mainly in the Amazon region and along the Andes.
After harvesting, the reddish-brown bark is dried in strips and then brewed into a fragrant infusion with a warm, woody flavour and subtle notes of vanilla and cocoa.
Lapacho has a long history in South American traditions. Among various indigenous peoples, the tree was considered a symbol of strength and vitality and was valued for its durable wood and characteristic scent. Today, Lapacho is mainly drunk as an herbal beverage — either pure or combined with other herbs.
