Description
Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) consists of the dried flower buds of the clove tree, originally from the Moluccas — known in old VOC sources as the 'Spice Islands'. The scent is warm, powerfully aromatic and slightly sweet, with a deep spice note that comes into its own in both sweet and savoury dishes.
Since ancient times, cloves have held a prominent place in Asian, Arabic and Ayurvedic herbal cultures, where they are a versatile spice and traditional ingredient in balms, oils and beverages. These historical uses are mentioned for context.
In tea blends, cloves provide a warming undertone that combines well with cinnamon, orange, black tea or winter spices. Due to its intense flavour, just a small amount is enough to give a blend a rich aromatic depth.
