Description
Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca), also known as motherwort, is an ancient cultivated plant that has been found in European monastery gardens and home medicine cabinets since the Middle Ages. The plant belongs to the mint family and is known for its mild, aromatic herbal character with a slightly bitter taste.
The cut parts of motherwort are widely used for infusions. In traditional herbal history, the herb was valued in various European regions, often as part of mixtures intended to promote a sense of calm and relaxation—always within the cultural and historical context, without scientific substantiation.
The herb has a place in both folk medicine and modern herbal traditions, but today it is mainly used for its typical taste and characteristic aroma, which it can impart to herbal teas.
