Description
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is the rhizome of a tropical plant that originates from Southeast Asia. Today, it is cultivated worldwide in warm, humid regions. The plant has narrow, lance-shaped leaves and modest yellow-green flowers, but its real power lies in its underground rhizome: firm, fibrous and full of aroma.
The taste of ginger is distinctive and warming — fresh, spicy and slightly pungent, with a hint of citrus. The aroma is intense and lively, making ginger a versatile ingredient in countless blends and infusions.
Ginger pairs well with spices such as turmeric, cinnamon and star anise and forms the basis for warming chai and spice drinks in many countries. In tea blends, it provides a lively, aromatic note with a fresh kick — a classic in both Eastern and Western tea traditions.
Other classic combinations include ginger with lemon and honey, or with mint and orange — always a rich, invigorating infusion with character.
