Description
Broken chilli peppers (Capsicum spp.) belong to the nightshade family and are known worldwide for their warm, spicy character. The dried and coarsely broken peppers are widely used to give dishes and herbal infusions a fiery flavour and aromatic depth.
Chilli peppers have a long history in Central and South American culinary traditions. Chilli peppers also play a role in traditional preparations and uses in the local herbal medicine of those regions. This concerns exclusively historical and cultural use.
The plants thrive mainly in warm, sunny climates and are harvested once the fruits are fully ripe. After drying, they are coarsely crushed, which gives them a concentrated flavour and lively aroma.
Due to their distinctive character, crushed chillies are a popular ingredient in tea blends, spice preparations and spicy dishes around the world.
