Description
Passion flower (Passiflora incarnata) is a striking climbing plant that originates from the south-east of North America. The plant was appreciated early on by indigenous peoples and later described by European travellers for its extraordinary flowers, which came to symbolise calm and contemplation. Today, passionflower is cultivated worldwide, both for its ornamental growth habit and for its dried herb.
The herb consists of the above-ground parts of the plant: leaves, stems and sometimes a small part of the flower. When brewed as an infusion, it produces a mild, green herbal tea with a light, spicy note. Passionflower combines well with other botanicals such as lemongrass, lavender, chamomile or lemon balm.
