Description
Caraway seed (Carum carvi L.) belongs to the umbellifer family and is one of the oldest known spices from Northern and Central Europe. Since the Middle Ages, it has been valued for its warm, slightly spicy and aromatic aniseed flavour, which adds a recognisable depth to both savoury and sweet infusions and blends.
Flavour & aroma
Caraway seed has a distinct and layered flavour profile:
• warm and spicy, with a slightly peppery
undertone• sweet aniseed-like, similar to fennel and
aniseed• a savoury, nutty base that approaches
cumin• fresh, almost citrusy top notes from natural essential oils
