Description
Jasmine blossom (Jasminum officinale) is one of the most beloved aromatic flowers in tea culture, especially in China and North Africa. The small, creamy white flowers are picked in the evening, when their natural fragrance is strongest. After drying, they retain their characteristic soft, floral and slightly sweet scent.
Although jasmine blossom is best known as a fragrance carrier for jasmine tea — in which fresh jasmine flowers are mixed several times with green tea leaves — the dried flower can also be used on its own as a mild herbal tea or as an elegant addition to blends. The taste of the pure infusion is subtle and floral, less pronounced than fragrant jasmine tea, which is flavoured with fresh flowers.
In many Asian tea traditions, jasmine symbolises purity, peace and elegance, which is why it is often used in ceremonial or festive tea blends. Thanks to its soft colour and light floral scent, jasmine blossom is a valued ingredient for both taste and presentation.
