Description
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), also known as Indian ginseng or winter cherry, is a classic plant in South Asian herbal culture. The root in particular plays a central role in this. In Ayurveda, ashwagandha has a long tradition as part of daily rituals and wellness formulas, with the plant being culturally regarded as a strengthening and stabilising foundation.
The dried root has a mild earthy, spicy aroma and produces a warm, full-bodied infusion. Ashwagandha combines well with mild spices, cocoa accents or spicy blends, but is also drunk pure for its characteristic flavour.
The plant belongs to the nightshade family and grows naturally in dry, warm regions of India, Pakistan and parts of Africa. In many areas, ashwagandha is considered a 'heritage plant': a species that plays a role not only in cuisine and tea culture, but also in stories, rituals and other cultural traditions.
