Description
The black elder (Sambucus nigra) is a familiar sight in hedges and along old farmhouses. In spring, it adorns itself with large, creamy white flower umbels that give off a refined, slightly sweet scent. These blossoms are harvested by hand and carefully dried to preserve their natural aroma.
Elderflower has traditionally been a popular ingredient in homemade syrups, lemonades and teas. In traditional European herbal culture, elder symbolised protection and renewal — the shrub was even seen as the 'guardian tree' of the farmyard.
As an herbal tea, elderflower produces a soft, floral infusion with a slight spiciness and a hint of honey. It combines beautifully with chamomile, mint or lemon balm for a fragrant, delicate blend.
Our organic elderflower is carefully picked during its short flowering season in spring and dried at low temperatures — pure nature, with the scent of spring in every cup.
