Description
Pink pepper (Schinus terebinthifolius) are the aromatic, golden-pink berries of the so-called "Brazilian pepper tree". Although they resemble classic peppercorns in appearance, botanically they belong to a completely different plant family. The berries are known for their soft, perfumed flavour with subtle sweet-spicy and slightly floral accents.
Pink pepper has long been used in South American culinary traditions. The berry also had a place in traditional preparations within local spice cultures. This concerns exclusively historical and cultural use; no claims are made about its effects or effectiveness.
Pink pepper has a delicate character: warm, elegant, slightly fruity and not sharp. The berries add a soft, fragrant nuance that comes into its own especially in blends. When lightly crushed, their aromatic oil is released, creating a refined, floral spiciness.
