Description
Goldenrod (Solidago virgaurea) is a classic European herb that has been used for centuries to prepare mild, aromatic infusions. The plant grows in open forests, grasslands and sunny slopes and is known for its graceful, golden-yellow flower plumes that bring a warm glow to the landscape in late summer and early autumn.
The name Solidago is derived from the Latin 'solidare' — to strengthen — a reference to the value attributed to the plant in earlier times. The herb was used in various regions in culinary and herbal tea infusions, often combined with other mild herbs.
Goldenrod has a mild, slightly spicy flavour with a fresh, earthy note, which makes it ideal for use both on its own and in blends.
