Honeybush (h/org)
Honingbos, Honeybush, or Heuningbos in African, is made from the aboveground parts of the plants in the Cyclopia family that grow on the South African Cape. The plants are so named because the flowers smell like honey. The herb is similar in taste to rooibos, but is fuller and sweeter.
Honeybush contains Pinitol, a modified sugar. Pinitol is in the spotlight as a cough suppressant and possibly blood sugar lowering agent. For this reason, Honeybush is also being investigated as a natural medicine in the treatment of diabetes.
