Hemp (h/org)

Hemp is a plant with a huge range of different uses.

Most famously, no doubt, specific parts of the plant, the dried, ripened flowers and the processed resin, are used as the soft drug marijuana and hashish, respectively. Hemp fibers are used in construction and textiles, hemp seed in food (as a “superfood”), hemp oil in cosmetics, etc.

The product we offer here is cut, organically grown hemp leaf, without flowers and seeds, to be used as a tea.

A
scientific study
shows that in a (strong) infusion of 15 grams of hemp leaf in 1 L of boiling water, only a very small amount of the psychoactive compound THC remains: 0.23 mg/L. Consumption of 1.2 L of hemp leaf infusion over a period of 2 hours did not result in detectable concentrations of THC metabolites in the urine of 6 subjects. The
psychotropic threshold of THC
is about 0.2 mg/kg body weight, which is 14 mg for a 70-kg person. This person would have to drink over 60 L of infusion of hemp leaf in boiling water before he/she would begin to feel high….

By comparison, in a
other study
an average of 600 times higher THC concentration was found with a similar infusion of female hemp flower buds.

OK, that was an explanation of why we don’t have to leave it out, but why would we want to drink hemp leaf infusion at all?

Well, it is beautifully fresh green in color, both dry and in the cup, it has a nice, fresh taste. Moreover, there are all kinds of indications of a
therapeutic potential of Cannabis
. Some even suggest that Cannabis may well become the aspirin of the 21st century.
